"The Triumph"
A new teacher, Mr Clark (Matthew Perry), was sent to a class full of notorious but smart 13th grader kids in New York. Rope with bad family background & "school sucks" attitude, these kids simply didn't want him as their teacher at all. Countless previous teachers had only lasted with the class not more than a week.
However, driven by his determination to change these kids, he changed his approach & taught them the meaning of "family" through learning what they love most. He danced & rapped with them in class, played skipping rope during lunch, & even visit them at home. Slowly, the kids were able to warm up to him. Most of them even shared with him their hobbies, even the most rebelious kid in the class was able to sit on the chair with his face towards the board (he initially sat on the table with the back against the board). Not all went well though; he felt sick, received complaint from a Mum, etc etc...But that didn't stop him from doing his job in motivating the kids.
The hard work paid off in the end when his class came up tops in the whole cohort with one of the students received perfect score for 2 subjects. His positive thinking & commitment received praises from the other teahers & the principle.
Bumped into this movie while I was lazing around at home on a chilly Sunday afternoon...
Inspired teachers, teachers & alike are recommended to watch this movie.
Although there are similar movies/films like this in the market,
to me,
this is the most relevant & realistic example of the current classroom.
From the way how the kids are so disrecpectful towards the teacher,
to how he felt like giving up on the class,
it's full of reality.
What inspired me the most were his determination, commitment & motivational spirit.
How he was able to use reverse psychology to motivate these kids.
How he stoop so low so as to learn from these kids & encouraging them to warm up to him.
How he was able to build up his own spirit just for these kids.
Though not the whole movie was realistic,
majority part of the movie can be taken as a learning point for classroom management, educational psychology as well as motivational spirit that 1 should have as an educator.
